Hello dear readers,

on 7th February, we went to Stockport school, but we didn’t have school like everyone normally has, we were in a drama club with the English pupils, it was really funny to be honest, we had a few warmups and challenges before starting the real pantomime. We played games and one of them is called “Bunny“, and we also played freeze, where we had to pose like a statue and freeze. It was pretty funny, and after that we learned a bit about pantomime and we made different groups and got a script. We could play the stories Hansel and Gretel, Goldilocks and Pantomania, it was a mixture of different things like Cinderella and Silly Billy, a fairy and a dame etc.

At 5 pm we performed on stage and even wore funny costumes with props! Oh, there’s something I also want to mention.. there was a fire alarm! Not everyone gets the chance to experience one in England and it has been our second day there when it happened, what a coincidence. It was fun to experience though and luckily, it has just been a test. The fire drill here has a different alarm sound.

Now I will tell you a bit about the school in England, it‘s quite different from our school in Germany, they do have school until 3pm, just like us,  but they also have different classes, like cooking class and textile class where they craft and stitch, that was pretty shocking and really interesting. They have a class for each subject so basically pupils  always have to walk around the halls to get to a different class with different people. The food is amazing, they have many options like pizza, pasta with tomato sauce and cake or cookies etc., the school is  really huge and reminds me of the schools they have in American movies. The students are more polite, they joke around but they are pretty nice. Of course they are wearing school uniforms.

Some of them asked questions about Germany‘s past and they also said “Bonjour“ even though we‘re Germans, that was quite funny XD

We had a great time at Stockport school.

The day started at 7:30 am because we wanted to go to school today. We then had breakfast and got ready for another day at school.

First we walked to Piccadilly Station (railway station) and then we took the train from Corbar Road up to Travis Street. Then we walked about 4 minutes to school in Stockport.

When we arrived, Catherine Robinson, the English teacher, greeted us and let us in. Today we would do a theater day with our partner students. We went to a gym where we first put our things down and then sat in a circle. So we all started playing community games together, e.g. we were asked to hold a balloon in the air, but only with one hand. The score was 2-1 for us. A student from our partner school named Ben then showed and explained a lot about theater (pantomime) and showed a presentation and videos he had prepared.

The reason was that we should choose a play from three choices. So we all split into groups. I was in a group of three English people and two of my friends. We chose the piece "The story of the three bears and Goldilock" together, with me playing Goldilock. This was followed by a short break and a group photo.

After rehearsing we had lunch in the canteen. When the break was over, we rehearsed some more. Catherine Robinson then ordered pizza and drinks for everyone, which was a very nice gesture. After the little snack break we took our equipment outside while everything in the hall was being prepared for the performance. At about 5 p.m. we started the performances. Most were very funny and the language, the rhymes in English sounded very interesting too. After saying goodbye to our English friends we gathered outside and made our way to the train station.

We took two trains back to our hotel. However, we decided to go to the supermarket. After a short walk we arrived at the hotel. The rest of the evening some ordered pizza and played cards, and then we went to bed.
